Thanks to goals from Gareth Bale and Alvaro Morata, Real Madrid extended their lead by five points in La Liga after thrashing Laganes 3-0 in the afternoon match at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Gareth Bale shot Madrid ahead in the 38th minute, with an assist by Isco, who directed the ball behind the Leganes defence, for Bale to slot in.
Seven minutes later, just before the break, Bale was on song again, after a Toni Kroos cross into the box, from a free kick.Alvaro Morata passed the ball for Bale to tap in.
In the second half, Morata compounded the visitors’ misery when he found the net in the 77th minute, thanks to Toni Kroos, who provided the pass behind the defence for Morata, to record Madrid’s third goal.
Madrid now have 27 points on the league table, five points ahead of rival Barcelona, who will play fourth placed Sevilla, in the last game of the day.
Atletico Madrid, who were expected to overtake Barcelona on Saturday fell surprisingly 0-2 to Real Sociedad. They remain third, with 21 points, just like Sevilla.
After 11 matches, Madrid remain unbeaten.
Coach Zinedine Zidane impressed this on his wards before the match against Leganes.
They did not disappoint him. They will now go into the international beak as league leaders.
Madrid are now six points away from Atletico and can stretch their advantage over either Sevilla or Barcelona, who face off in the final game of today.
