A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 19-year-old man, Aminu Mohammed, to two months imprisonment for stealing a bicycle.
Mohammed was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft, contrary to Sections 343 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Danladi, had told the court that one Ibrahim Aminu of Kpakungu reported the matter at the Police Station on Aug. 20.
Danladi said the complainant alleged that Mohammed, a resident of Mokwa, entered his compound and stole a black sport bicycle, one white kaftan and a telephone handset.
He said that the convict was arrested with the help of the complainant’s neighbour, adding that the stolen items were recovered from him.
Mohammed pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
Consequently, the prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily in line with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Mariam Kings, sentenced Mohammed to two years in jail with an option of a fine of N20, 000.
