Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is unsure if he will accept an invitation from President Donald Trump to visit the United States, saying his schedule is very tight.
“I am tied up,” Duterte told reporters late Monday after touring visiting Chinese warships docked in his hometown of Davao City in the southern Philippines. “I cannot make (a) definite promise.”
Trump and Duterte telephoned on Sunday and the two leaders discussed various issues including the controversial anti-drug war of the Philippine leader.
During the conversation Trump invited Duterte to visit the US.
Duterte said he is already committed to hold state visits to Russia and Israel within the year, aside from hosting the annual East Asia Summit later this year, which Trump is expected to attend.
The White House said Trump’s invitation was aimed at discussing the importance of US-Philippine relations.(dpa/NAN)
