An alleged robber of an octogenarian in Lagos has been arrested.
The Police said the suspect was a member of a two-man gang who robbed an 81-year old woman of about N7 million and other valuables.
Police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos who confirmed this to newsmen on Sunday said that the suspect was arrested by operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
Badmos said that the arrested suspect claimed the ringleader of the gang, now at large was an herbalist.
She said the suspect, one Segun Taiwo, was apprehended after they had successfully dispossessed the 81 years old woman of her valuable at Oduduwa Street, Itire, Lagos.
The spokesperson said that the suspects had collected $10,000 (N4.7 million), £5,000 (N1.8 million) and N100,000 .
Other valuables, she said they collected included a box containing assorted jewellery and that the incident happened on Saturday at about 8 p.m.
“The suspect confessed that he was only invited into the robbery by the herbalist, simply identified as Demola.
“He claimed he promised to give him 50 per cent from the loot.
“The ringleader was treating one of the woman’s daughter (name withheld) who had sore in her right foot.
“Whenever the lady visited him for treatment, he was always stylishly collecting information about her mother from her.
“Unknowingly to the lady, he had collected all necessary descriptions and information needed to perpetuate the robbery,’’ Badmos said.
The spokesperson, however, said the command was making effort to arrest the gang leader saying “ we will leave no stone unturned to nip crimes at bud in the state.
“The suspect has been transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation,’’ she said.
