Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) Officers who allegedly harassed a young lady, Amadi Onyekachi, in Ilorin, would undergo trial on Thursday.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ilorin.
NAN reports that Onyekachi had in the social media narrated her ordeal in the hands of the officers which caught the attention of the public.
She alleged that the FSARS officers harassed and forcefully pushed her into a police truck.
She said they stopped her at ‘Pipeline area’ and asked why she had Yahoo applications on her phone.
Onyekachi said she was shocked when another operative, under the pretense of searching her, forced his hand into her underwear.
The Police Spokesman said the lady alleged that she was molested and the police officers on duty on the said day had been invited for investigation.
He said the officers were arrested when the Commissioner of Police in the state got wind of the incident.
He said once investigations were concluded on Wednesday, the Police would organise an “Orderly Room” trial to unravel the truth behind the allegation.
Onyekachi also told NAN on Wednesday that she had been invited several times by the police and was in company of members of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), an organisation she said she had approached for help on Wednesday.
“I have been there to identify the officers, it was the group that harassed me.
“No one is talking about any compensation and I think I deserve one, I will love it if this matter is not swept under the carpet” Onyekachi said.
The lady said she deserved justice.
