Federer books Berdych in Wimbledon semi-final

Roger Federer: to meet Berdych in semi-final

Roger Federer will meet Czech Tomas Berdych in the first semi-final of Wimbledon men’s tennis on Friday after beating Canadian Milos Raonic in three straight sets 6-4 6-2 7-6.

The Swiss ace, who is yet to drop a set, won the first two sets in 57 minutes. It was his 100 match  at the event and his 12th semi-final, an open era record.

“I’m so, so happy to be in another semi here. My dream run continues… we’ll see what happens, “said Federer.

Federer, the Australian Open Champion is now one match away from reaching the Wimbledon final and perhaps winning a second Grand Slam this year and his eighth at the . Wimbledon. The last time he achieved the feat was in  2009.

Berdych was gifted his match against number 2 seed Novak Djokovic, after he injured his shoulder in his fourth round match against Adrian Mannarino on Tuesday. The Serbian was already trailing 6-7 0-2 when he called time out.

Novak Djokovic hadn’t retired from a Grand Slam match since 2009 – at the Australian Open against, curiously enough, Andy Roddick.

The Serb’s departure means that he, Murray and Rafael Nadal are all missing from a Grand Slam semi-final line-up for the first time since Roland Garros 2009.
