Serena Williams is through to the quarter-finals of the US Open after beating Estonian Kaia Kanepi in three sets.
The six-time champion, playing not as sharp as when she played her sister Venus on Friday, raced through the first set with a bagel, but her performance dipped in the second set as she lost 4-6.
Kanepi was leading the second set 5-2 at a stage, but the 23 Grand Slam champion struggled in vain to force a tie break. It was the first time that Serena dropped a set in her encounters with Kanepi.
In the third set, Serena raced to 3-0 lead, to make her uncatchable by her Estonian opponent. She won the match 6-0 4-6 6-3.
She next meets Karolina Pliskova in the quarter finals. Pliskova beat Ashley Barty 6-4 6-4.
Williams last met Kanepi at the 2014 U.S. Open.
The Estonian who was high on confidence after eliminating top seed Simona Halep in the first round, had her confidence shattered in the first set.
