Real Madrid are back atop the La Liga after beating Espanyol 2-0 in the late match today. And they have also set a new record of 16 consecutive La Liga wins.
The Spanish giants playing without Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, were able to dominate proceedings, having 59 per cent of possession.
But it took the extra time of the first half for James Rodriguez to score for Madrid. Karim Benzema increased the tally in the 71st minute.
Madrid now lead the table with 12 points, with rival Barcelona, who fell to newly promoted Alaves 1-2 last week, on their tail with nine points.
Las Palma are tied with Barcelona on nine points, but have six goal difference compared to Barcelona’s eight. Atletico are sitting in the fourth place with eight points.
