Ms Fatima Ben Rejeb of Panafrican Farmers Association (PAFO) has called on the African Development Bank (AfDB) to focus on women empowerment to drive its industrialisation policy in Africa.
Rejeb disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Forum on Tuesday in Abidjan.
She said that women at the rural areas had all it takes to contribute in the drive to industrialise Africa.
“For me, focus should be on agro business, especially on food processing and in this area, women are the majority.
“The women need finance to effectively play this role for the growth and development of the region.
“So, access to finance and capacity building in agro business is very strategic to develop the continent,’’ she said
According to her, there is need to harmonise policies to help fight corruption found in intervention in the region.
She advised the bank to focus on support that would open up the local market and consumption.
“We need to strengthen farmers at the local level, support mechanised farming and standardise the local companies,’’ she said
He further noted that the issues of Land tenure system in the region must be looked into adding that women and youths must be properly trained for bankable projects.(NAN)
