The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has presented 100 computer units with accessories and 1,334 books on Accounting and Finance to the Federal Treasury Academy, Orozo.

A statement issued by Mr Kalu Otisi, Head, Press and External Relations Unit in Abuja on Tuesday, said the donation was part of effort to support the academy to train participants on effective financing and accounting.

The statement quoted the Executive Secretary, PTDF, Dr Bello Aliyu Gusau as saying that an effective financial and accounting knowledge was vital to proper management of oil and gas resources in Nigeria.

Gusau added that beyond enhancing the ICT and library facilities of the academy, the Fund in future would explore the possibility of localising the training of manpower in oil and gas accounting in the institution.

“The Fund has over the years been investing in the training of PTDF Scholars in oil and gas accounting in foreign universities.

“In fact oil and gas accounting is a key element of the capacity building that PTDF is doing yearly at all levels including Masters and PhD degrees.

“So, we are looking forward to getting involved in the in- country training of personnel that work in the industry through an effective collaboration with the Academy,’’ he said

Responding, the Accountant- General of the Federation, Mr Ahmed Idris thanked PTDF for extending the training facilities to the academy.

Idris expressed hope that with more funding, the training and capacity building programmes of the institution would be enhanced.

According to him, the facilities and equipment will aid the transformation of the academy into a world class centre of excellence for the training of public finance managers across the country.

The Federal Treasury Academy Orozo, is an arm of the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation established with the vision to serve as a premier institution for developing human capacity in public finance education and management.
