Tolu Adesanmi, the Creative Director of DubaiAfrika, a Travel Agency and a Tourist Expert, has called on government to ensure economic stability and enact policies that will give fillip to private investment in the tourism sector.
Adesanmi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday that the economic situation had hampered the prospects of Nigeria becoming one of the most visited nations in Africa by tourists.
According to him, Nigeria is rich in culture amidst other tourist attractions but has yet to gain grounds as a tourist nation.
“It is no more news that our leaders have focused more on oil exploration over time but failed to explore other areas like tourism, agriculture and mineral resources as means of revenue generation for the nation.
“We need leaders who have foresight great enough to painstakingly create laudable projects to launch tourism to its height in the country,’’ he said.
Adesanmi said that tourism development was the quickest way to extend economic opportunities to the grassroots because it would create automatic employment for locals.
“Tourism encourages people in the suburbs to benefit from government patronage,’’ he said.
He said that investment in tourism by government would open up opportunities for both local and foreign investors which would have multiplier effects on the economy.
NAN reports that Adesanmi is an expert in tourism and entertainment, and uses the DubaiAfrika platform to engage sports and entertainment celebrities to create awareness about sickle cell anemia.
Ace footballer, Odion Ighalo, will be hosted by DubaiAfrika as tour guide on a six-day tour of Dubai in December.
The tour is to raise funds for the fight against sickle cell and to build the Odion Ighalo Orphanage home in Nigeria.(NAN)
