President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the home-based Super Eagles and their coaching crew to remain focused and determined until they win the trophy of the African Nations Championship on Sunday.
Buhari said this in a congratulatory message to the players, after they edged Sudan in the semi-final played in Marrakech, to book a place in the final. They will meet Morocco, the hosts, who earlier dispatched Libya 3-1 in the first semi-final played in Casablanca.
In the statement issued by Femi Adesina, President Buhari celebrated the spectacular performance of the team, despite playing for almost 30 minutes with 10 men.
According to Adesina, President Buhari commended the hardwork, dedication, discipline and indomitable spirit of the players. He said the qualities are truly worthy of emulation.
President Buhari had taken time to watch the Super Eagles in the quarter-finals against Angola, even though he was attending the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
“The President assures them (players and coach) of the unflinching support, goodwill and prayers of the Federal Government and all Nigerians as they soar to victory”, Adesina said.
