The President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, said on Tuesday that his board has been vindicated with the success of German-born tactician, Gernot Rohr following criticisms that trailed his appointment as Super Eagles Technical Adviser.

Pinnick in a telephone interview told the News Agency of Nigeria that the decision to hire Rohr was a collective decision of members of the NFF Executive Committee.

He said Rohr’s appointment was not a gamble as believed in some quarters.

According to Pinnick, the success recorded so far by Rohr is about Nigeria football and the board of the NFF and not me.

“We decided to go for what we want at that point and the good thing is that we did not consider it a gamble because we know his antecedent.

“However, it is not about him alone but all the members of the technical crew, from Salisu Yusuf, Allow Agu to the least backroom staff.

“I must also admit that we have mother luck smiling at us. The technical ability can be 70 or 80 per cent but the prayers from Nigerians also contributed.

“I want to also emphasis that we are not resting on our oars. We are doing everything humanly and materially possible to ensure we beat Cameroon home and away.

“It is only when we beat Cameroon that we can say that we have picked the World Cup ticket,” Pinnick said.

NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, in his view said that the performance of the German tactician has vindicated the federation, noting that the choice of a foreign coach was what the Eagles needed to succeed.

Sanusi described the former Germany defender as “cool headed”, noting that the coach’s approach to duty was infectious.

“Yes we can say that we have gotten what we want in the position of Super Eagles Technical Adviser and we are happy with the qualities the man possesses.

“The major thing is that he has the character and we have seen the kind of character he exhibits.

“This is one man that is just hungry for success and whose focus is to make sure that he achieves success ahead of other things which are secondary to him.

He is also one man that believes in dialogue. He humbly comes to you, sits down to discuss on matters, he sees reasons behind whatever you say and agrees when you present a superior argument. He also politely says his own observations”, Sanusi said.
