Three Etisalat registration agents who allegedly swapped the sim card belonging to the Governor of Jigawa state, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, were on Tuesday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos Island.
The trio, Akinwale Ayodeji, 39, two brothers Kamal, 36 and Yusuf Sulaiman, 26 are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, illegal sim swap and intent to defraud and steal.
They pleaded not guilty and were granted N100.000 bail with one surety each in like sum.
The prosecutor, Barr. Ben Ekundayo told the court that the three accused had between June 1 and July 31 at about 2:00p.m. in Lagos swapped Etisalat sim card number, 08092241417.
He said that the registration agents swapped the sim belonging to the Governor of Jigawa with the intent to defraud and steal.
The prosecutor said that the management of Etisalat telecommunications got a report that the line belonging to Jigawa governor was illegally swapped.
“The sim swap was traced to Akinwale and Kamal who claimed that Yusuf handed the number to him.
“They did not follow the laid down process nor did the proper documentation, which has been the usual practice of the agents,” he said.
Ekundayo said that the offences contravened Sections 409 and 404 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mr Ade Adefulire said that the three accused must provide one responsible surety each and the sureties must be account owners in banks in Lagos.
He, then adjourned the case to Oct. 6 for mention.
