Six kidnapping and robbery gangs, made of 31 suspects have been arrested by the Special Tactical Squad set up by the Inspector general of Police.
Three commanders of the gangs were also arrested, along with those responsible for the kidnapping of Sheik Mohammed Ahmed Alqarkawi in Kaduna State and collection of N12 million ransom before he was released.
The police said all the 31 suspects were caught in the crime axis of Kaduna and Zamfara states. They were blamed for the kidnapping, killing, robbing innocent travellers and villagers in villages and towns along Abuja- Kaduna –Birnin Gwari- Funtua – Zamfara highways.
Arrested with the gangsters were 22 AK 47 rifles, one LAR Rifle, two single barrel guns, one locally made pistol and a dane gun and 247 rounds of ammunition.
Most of the suspects, yet to be identified have confessed to their criminal roles and most of the victims have equally identified them, police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said.
