(NAN) The Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the bill for the consolidation of all property and land-based rates and charges payable in the state.
The consolidated rates and charges were those payable under the Property Rates Law, Local Government Law and Assessment Law.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the laws are now consolidated into the land based charge to be called Property and Land Use Charge.
The lawmakers said that consolidation made provision for the levying and collection of the charges and for connected purposes as contained in the bill.
The Speaker of the assembly, Chief Edward Ubosi, said that the passage of the bill followed a report presented by the joint committee on lands, local government, environment and judiciary.
Ubosi said that the bill scaled a thorough item-by-item scrutiny when the assembly dissolved into a committee of the whole.
The speaker commended the Chairman of the joint committee, Mr Sunday Ude-Okoye, and his members for the wide consultations during the public hearing, adding that they did justice to the bill.
He commended the lawmakers for their contributions which made the bill a reality.
The assembly adjourned for one month to reconvene on Sept. 13 to continue its legislative business.
The speaker noted that the long adjournment was to enable his colleagues to freshen up in preparation for the tasks ahead.
