The National Youth Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (NYCAPC) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for revolutionising transportation sector through massive investment in railway to boost economic activities in the country.

Mr Haruna Okatahi, Publicity Secretary of the caucus, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday in Abuja.

Okatahi said that the ongoing railway projects in many part of the country had provided hope for accelerated infrastructure development.

He said that government’s decision to link all commercial cities and production centres including state capitals through rail would fastback economic and national integration.

The publicity secretary said that rail project would improve revenue generation and create direct employment opportunities to both skilled and unskilled workers thereby enhancing nation’s economy.

Okatahi added that the revolution in the railway system would provide an easy process for the transportation of farm produce from all parts of the country, thus enhancing food security in the country.

“It is part of our misfortune as a nation that the railway system has been neglected for decades by the previous administrations and this had contributed to poor economic growth of Nigeria.

“ The efforts being put in place by President Buhari administration to provide railways would protect our roads and the huge resources used in maintaining them,“ Okatahi said.

The publicity secretary also applauded the APC led administration for improved electricity supply, adding that Nigerians across the country are experiencing improved power supply.

He said that several moribund projects have been revived, while repairs of other key power stations are ongoing through a private investment partnership.

Okatahi, therefore, appealed to all Nigerians irrespective of their political inclination to support the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to address infrastructure deficit in the country.
