The Super Eagles on Saturday defeated their Algerian counterparts 3-1 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo.
Chelsea of England midfielder, Victor Moses scored the first goal in the 25th minute of the game to place Nigeria in a good position of qualifying for the World Cup.
Captain John Mikel Obi registered his name on the score sheet after he netted Nigeria’s second goal in the 42nd minute from a pass that looked offside.
The Algerians were at their best at the start of the second half and their performance paid off when Bentaleb scored in the 67th minute to reduce the tally to 2-1.
The visitors made every effort to equalise but were constantly stopped by the Eagles defense led by Leon Balogun.
Leicester FC of England player Ahmed Musa’s laid a beautiful pass as Victor Moses netted his second goal of the encounter in the 92nd minute to seal victory 3-1 for Nigeria.
The victory now placed Nigeria on top of the group with six points having defeated Zambia 2-1 in Ndola in the team’s first group match.
In the other group match played today Zambia held Cameroon to a 1-1 draw.
Super Eagles next match in the qualifying series will be against Cameroon on Aug. 28, 2017.
